Homework
Reading & Library
In school, your child will take part in two guided reading sessions per week. During these sessions your child will focus on applying phonics skills, developing book talk, reading with expression and beginning to develop comprehension skills. Our guided reading sessions take place on Monday and Tuesday. Once your child has completed these sessions, they will bring home their new reading book to share with you.
At home, please share this book with your child, listen to your child read, encourage them to use their phonics, talk about the story and pictures, spot familiar words in the text and enjoy reading together. Your child should be able to read their book with confidence and increasing fluency and accuracy. Please write in the yellow diary to show that you have read with your child at home.
Please make sure that your child brings their reading book and diary to school every Monday in their purple bag. This is so a new reading book can be given to your child in preparation for their next guided reading sessions, ready for the cycle to start again.
In addition to their reading book, your child will also bring home a library book, this book is intended to be a 'reading for pleasure' book, therefore your child will not necessarily have the phonic skills to read these books independently. Please enjoy sharing these books with your child, talking about the story, their favourite part, etc.
Phonics
At Trinity, we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds programme. This programme is a thorough and structured approach to phonics and early reading.
Phonics is taught daily to all children and during each session, your child will learn a new sound, and be encouraged to read and spell words containing this sound as well as sounds that they have previously learnt. Your child will receive a weekly phonics letter informing you of the sounds learnt in school that week, words to read using those sounds and which tricky words we have learnt.
If you need further information, please speak to a member of the Reception team.
PE
Please ensure that your child’s PE kit is FULLY LABELLED with their FULL NAME, in a bag labelled with their FULL NAME and CLASS. Earrings should be removed or covered with surgical tape for all PE lessons.
